The hive entrance pollen trap is installed directly at the entrance of the beehive. When a bee wants to fly into the hive, it must crawl through a narrow, circular opening in the pollen grid. In doing so, it sheds its pollen load, which then falls into the collection container below. This container is well-ventilated, ensuring that the fresh pollen remains dry and does not spoil.

A major advantage of the hive entrance pollen trap compared to ground-mounted versions is its ease of use. It can be quickly installed or removed without opening or modifying the hive. Ideal for beekeepers who want to collect pollen regularly.

The side Velutina shield provides additional protection for the hive entrance. Asian hornets often attack bees from the side, just before they reach the hive, when they slow down during their approach. This design allows the bees to enter safely and protects them as they crawl inside.

The pollen trap can remain on the hive year-round. If no pollen is to be collected, simply remove the collection container and open the opening. This allows the bees to fly in and out freely. There is no way to regulate the amount of pollen collected – the trap can only be switched between "On" (active) and "Off" (inactive) .

When setting up the pollen trap, ensure there are no gaps between it and the hive. Since bees always choose the path of least resistance, it's advisable to equip all colonies in an apiary with pollen traps simultaneously to prevent them from drifting off.
