Description
Description
Heated lid for 1 m uncapping tank – cappings wax melter and warming lid with air circulation
Expand your uncapping tank with versatile functions for honey and wax processing. The heated lid for compatible 100 cm uncapping tanks transforms your tank into a cappings wax melter. In addition, the interior can be used for warming honey frames and for thawing honey in suitable buckets.
The combination of heating, air circulation fan and adjustable thermostat supports even heat distribution. Two large carrying handles make it easier to place and remove the lid.
Melting cappings wax and recovering residual honey
During uncapping, valuable honey remains in the wax. With the heated lid, you can first warm the cappings wax in a controlled way so that the residual honey drains off more easily. The temperature can then be increased to melt down the wax.
This allows you to use your existing uncapping tank as a cappings wax melter as well, saving additional space in the honey house. Honey harvesting and wax melting should be carried out as separate work steps.
Warming honey frames before extracting
Honey frames that have already been removed and cooled can be gently warmed before extracting. This makes thick, viscous honey flow better and easier to extract from the combs. The prerequisite is that the frame fit into the tank used and that sufficient space remains for air circulation.
Thawing and liquefying honey in buckets
The covered uncapping tank can also be used as a warming chamber to heat crystallized honey in buckets and make it fluid again. For this purpose, use food-safe containers with sufficient heat resistance that fit completely under the lid.
Choose the lowest possible temperature suitable for honey and check the actual honey temperature separately. The time required depends, among other things, on the type of honey, crystallization and fill quantity.
Dissolving and processing melezitose honey
When processing melezitose honey, often called cement honey, a cappings wax melter can also be used to melt out affected combs. However, simple warming does not reliably make heavily crystallized melezitose honey suitable for extracting again. During melting out, high temperatures can impair honey quality; this application should therefore be distinguished from the gentle warming of ordinary honey.
Reduce heat loss with additional insulation
Depending on the design of the uncapping tank and the ambient temperature, it may be advisable to use a suitable heat-resistant insulation on the outer walls of the tank to equip. This helps reduce heat loss to the room and make better use of the heating energy used.
The insulation must be suitable for the temperatures that occur. The motor, control unit, ventilation openings and required airflow paths must remain unobstructed.
